This next month or so is undoubtedly the best time of year to fish the tropics. The rivers and estuaries will again return to producing a lot of different species, the reef will continue to fire and the game fishing scene is on the cusp of some big results.
With second waves of Covid 19 within the country threatening all aspects of life, including another severe economic downturn for the tourist industry in FNQ, we have been fortunate to have seen some activity up north for the moment.
As we enter into the very last stages of the wet season the fishing in the tropics can go to a new level in the coming month. The rainfall to date has been generous enough and we can expect a bit more to fall in the coming month.
Never in all my time since living in the region since 1996 have I seen such devastation to the area with COVID-19 taking a nationwide sweep and decimating us in the process. Only a bare handful of the local population has been able to continue with some normality.
