It's rare to meet a guide who is not only born and bred in the Daintree but also has a lifetime of commercial fishing experience behind him on the system he works every day. This is by far the best river and coastal experience in the region with the most credentialed skipper in FNQ.
For 30 years, Jamie Beitzel has worked every inch of this amazing and expansive system within the Daintree River and along its coastline. He is a very relaxed and easy going as a guide, works hard to ensure every client has a good time and gives anglers the best chance of catching the fish of their dreams.
His knowledge of the Daintree River, coast and reefs and its wildlife is simply second to none. In the river, the Daintree is the best system in the region for big queenfish, fingermark, javelin fish and barramundi. Mud crabs also flourish in season. It also offers the best croc spotting opportunities in the region. Along the coast wrecks, inshore patches and wonky holes produce big nannygai, bar cheek trout, mackerel and giant trevally amongst others. He operates a 6m custom built, centre console alloy vessel with ample fishing room, seating with shade and is great for fishing and exploring the river and venturing along the amazing coastline of the Daintree Rainforest. Powered by twin 90hp Yamaha engines and also the latest Min-Kota electric motor, this vessel has the speed and precision to zone in on all available species.
All fishing gear is supplied and food and drinks are BYO with eskies supplied. It is a 45 minute self drive from Port Douglas where you’ll meet him at the local tourist hub pontoon just prior to the Daintreee River / Cape Tribulation ferry crossing. It is worth every effort to spend a trip with Jamie.
